Baroque Music

Baroque Music has lots of different layers, and interweaving parts.  The Harpsichord (a sort of piano) that has a very distinctive sound was used a lot.  The music contains lots of ornaments that musicians played in addition to the notes in the melodies themselves (you might call them frilly bits!).  There were lots of famous composers that you will have heard of - Bach, Purcell, Vivaldi, Telemann, but perhaps you have heard the music of Handel the most...

George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) was German, but lived in England for 50 years!  He composed lots of famous music, such as Music for The Royal Fireworks and Messiah, but click below to try an easy version of a Minuet (a dance) from his well-known Water Music!
