Getting the most out of your lessons
Parents need to take an active role in their child’s musical development. Whether you are musical or not, there are plenty of things you can do to help your child achieve their goals.
10 minutes a day
Work done at home is just as important as your child’s lessons. Without regular practice a child’s progress will be hampered causing frustration and subsequent loss of interest.
Make practice part of your child’s daily routine. Good times for practice may be straight after school before tea or before school. |

Sit in on Practice Time
Sit in and listen to your child’s practice. They will need a lot of encouragement, especially in the first few months. Get them to repeat any sections of a piece they find difficult.
Record it
Record your child’s practice sessions on a wall chart and praise their efforts.
Keep it Clean!
Keeping your instrument in good condition is essential. Poor sound quality is often caused by no more than a ‘gunked up’ mouthpiece.
