To start with, your child will learn through the Standard of Excellence tutor method. This provides a solid foundation for learning an instrument.

After a while, your tutor may decide that your child has reached the required standard and shown the commitment necessary to be able to take the next step and take an exam.

As all pupils progress differently, not all pupils will be ready to take exams at the same time. Some pupils take only a few months to reach the required standard, and some take a few years! In addition, some pupils decide not to take external examinations at all, preferring to continue using the Standard of Excellence tutor books (of which there are three in the series).

Our tutors are responsible for deciding when a pupil is ready to take an exam. A note will be sent home with the pupil for your attention.
